Named in honor of the First President of the United States, George Washington, Washington Court House is the county seat of Fayette County, Ohio. Benjamin Temple established and founded Washington Court House in 1810, at which time it became the county seat.
Originally, the area was settled by Virginia veterans of the American Revolution, who were given the land from the government for compensation for their service in the war for the early nation’s independence. It was named Washington as far back as 1910.
