Media Air Filter Installation in Circleville, OH

Do you ever feel like your HVAC system’s air filter isn’t doing the trick, or you could be doing more to purify the air in your home? If so, a media air filter might be just for you. This is especially the case when you have pets in the home or you have things going on that could be compromising your air quality.

Because clean and effective air filters increase the lifespan of our HVAC systems and improve our air quality, homeowners should check and change them frequently in order to decrease the need for furnace and air conditioning repairs from the strain of poor airflow caused by dirty air filters. Still, these basic air filters don’t do enough.

If you’re looking to improve your air quality and make your air filters last longer, we recommend upgrading to a media air filter. If this sounds like something that might interest you, our team members at Circleville Heating & Cooling would be happy to set you up with an air filter or air cleaner to use with your current HVAC system. What is a Media Air Filter?

When it comes to improving indoor air quality and protecting equipment, media air cleaners are an HVAC systems’ first line of defense. Media air cleaners do an excellent job at cleaning air and are considered a high quality air filter. As indicated, they trap all sorts of tiny invisible air particles and pollutants in the air. These pollutants include a host of things like dust, dirt, mold, pet dander, pollen, smoke and other particles. They are installed on a return duct line on your home comfort system and prevent particulates from entering your home. Media air cleaners last much longer than the standard one-inch air filter, which isn’t nearly as effective.

    How Media Air Cleaners Work?

Media air cleaners are a cabinet which is positioned in the return air duct of the forced-air HVAC system. As the air passes through the HVAC system, the media air cleaner filters and traps airborne particles inside the filter media before they pass back into your indoor atmosphere.

The biggest difference between a media air cleaner and a standard or normal air filter in an HVAC system is the size. Standard, or conventional, air filters are usually only an inch thick. Media cleaners, however, are four to five inches thick. This thicker filtering allows more effective and superior air filtration.

Media Filters Vs. Standard Air Filters

Constructed out of loosely woven spun-glass fibers, most houses with forced-air furnaces use the standard furnace filter, which is designed to keep the HVAC equipment and its ductwork clean. Because of their minimum quality, these standard air filters don’t really do much to improve indoor air quality. Homeowners looking to improve indoor air quality should consider getting a media filter, which sits in between the main return duct and the blower cabinet. Media filters are made of a deeply pleated, paper-like material. They are at least seven times better than a standard filter at removing dust and other particles from the air in a home. If you have the standard filter, which needs regularly checked and replaced, know that upgrading to a pleated media filter will cleanse your household air of everything from pollutants and dust to flu viruses and other microscopic particles.

Because they’re compressed, media filters are usually no wider than six inches. However, the pleated material can cover up to 75 square feet if stretched out to the max. This increased area of filtration is a major reason for the filter’s superior long life, which can extend up to two years. The only downside to a media filter is its tight weave, which can restrict a furnace’s ability to blow air through the house if used incorrectly. To insure a steady, strong airflow through the house, choose a filter that matches your blower’s capacity. We can help make sure your media filter fits your blower if you call us.

Replace Your Media in Your Filter Frame Box in 5 Steps

A filter frame box saves you money on media replacement because instead of having to replace the whole box, which is a hassle, you can replace the accordion-style media, which is a relatively short and easy process.

When you purchase the filter frame box, it will arrive with media already inside it. Nevertheless, eventually, you’ll have to replace it. Below we include a few simple steps for replacement.

This video also explains the process.

    Step 1
Remove the media filter frame box from your HVAC. However, before doing this, make sure you turn off all power to your heating or cooling unit. Doing so is safe and also makes sure that you don’t get particles or dust in the system if it were to kick on while you were replacing the media.
    Step 2
Look for the four tabs on the filter frame box. Switch these to open up, permitting the sides of the frame to go down. This will give you access to the media for removal.
    Step 3
From there, the old media easily comes out and can be thrown away.Due to their design, these are much easier to get rid of because they aren’t as bulky, and you can fold them up and throw them away.
    Step 4
Uncoil the new media so you can insert it into the filter frame. The end of the new media with cardboard should fit snugly into the first channel on the filter frame. Matching the old media, place one fold per base on the filter frame box.
After this, there are only two accordion filters that fit several different frames. Because of this, you might have more folds than you do channels. If you do, it’s not a problem. If you have extras, you can bunch up any extra folds into one channel. It’ll still work fine.
    Step 5
After you have inserted all the folds, lift the sides of the box so you’re able to reattach to the new media. Flip the tabs back in place to secure the media. When this is done, you’ve successfully replaced your media!
