Getting to Know Mount Sterling, OH
Named after the town in Kentucky with the same name, Mount Sterling is a village in Madison County, Ohio, with a population of nearly 1,800 residents. The village is located just south of Columbus and is part of the metropolitan area. The town was laid out by John J. Smith, Esq., in 1826 or 1828 after his hometown and it was recorded at London on June 26, 1829. The post office was established there about a year later.
Mount Sterling was incorporated on March 12, 1845, and the corporation limits were expanded in 1873. As of 2020, Marci Darlington is the serving mayor. Mount Sterling is home to Ohio’s 54th Governor, John W. Bricker, who was also a senator, John W. Galbreath, philanthropist, and Bob Hill, basketball coach.
